Bhutan is a year-round destination, but each season offers a different experience.

Spring (March–May)

Rhododendrons and jacarandas bloom, temperatures are pleasant and the Paro Tshechu takes place. A wonderful time for trekking at lower altitudes.

Summer monsoon (June–August)

Lush green valleys, fewer visitors and lower hotel rates. Expect afternoon rain, but mornings are often clear. Good for cultural tours and the Haa Summer Festival.

Autumn (September–November)

The most popular season: crisp, clear skies with the best mountain views, the Thimphu Tshechu and ideal conditions for high treks such as Jomolhari.

Winter (December–February)

Cold nights but sunny days and very few visitors. The black-necked cranes are in Phobjikha and Punakha is mild and beautiful.
