Eastern Bhutan

Lhuentse

Ancestral home of the royal family & Kishuthara weaving

About Lhuentse

A remote, deeply traditional district famous for the finest silk textiles in Bhutan.

Lhuentse Dzong stands on a rocky outcrop above the Kuri Chhu in one of Bhutan’s most isolated districts. Lhuentse is the ancestral home of the Wangchuck dynasty, and the village of Khoma is renowned for kishuthara — intricately patterned silk kiras woven on backstrap looms. A visit here is a rare glimpse of rural eastern life.
